Lighting FAQ’s
Can I adjust how far my pendant will hang down?
Rod suspensions can usually only be adjusted in sections (with some exceptions). However, the cord or chain suspensions can be quite easily shortened.
Can we extend the length of the fitting?
Not usually, as the fitting was made with a certain amount of wiring length. Therefore the fitting would need to be completely rewired (by a qualified electician).
How can there be lights that are DIY?
Our range of DIY fittings are designed to cover an existing ‘batten holder’. This is the white (or sometimes brown) plastic fitting that a standard light bulb fits into – they are often used when homes are initially built and may have a simple cover over them. The DIY range can cover your batten holder easily, and can be changed easily to suit your decor.
If you want to install a light that isn’t a DIY, you will need to get an electrician.
Will the fluorescent bulbs do damage to our health? Are they safe?
They are completely safe for general use. Fluro tubes do emit a tiny amount of UV, but less than a few minutes outdoors and at a completely safe level.
Our fluoro bulbs contain the smallest amount of mercury possible. (All fluorescent bulbs contain mercury).
The lights don’t seem as bright with dark coloured walls?
Strong colours tend to absorb light, so what you are saying sounds right. My kitchen with dark timer cupboards, timber floor and dark granite bench tops, requires more artificial light than a two-pack kitchen of fawns and light silver. If you want to darken the colours in a room (and that includes changing the carpet or floor covering) but keep the same level of light or want more – you will need to increase the number of lights or increase the wattage of the bulbs you are using (just check the fitting is OK to use a higher wattage bulb).
What is the warranty on your fittings?
Our lighting range is covered by a 12 month replacement warranty when installed to the Australian standard by a qualified and licensed electrical contractor. We will replace the light if it is electrically faulty or becomes faulty during normal use.
Do you have any fittings that don’t require an electrician?
Yes if you have an existing batten holder we have access to a large range of DIY fittings and shades. They can go flush to the ceiling or can be suspended with the use of a DIY suspension cord – available in different lengths and a choice of colours. Please call or email us with any questions.
